Oh my goodness did you bring a casserole that was so generous of you
Come in come in we’re so glad you’re here
Just put your things at the door and make yourself at home
Oh my god Suzie is that a new hair cut, it looks fabulous

a page from suzuki beane, a parody of “eloise,” written by sandra scoppettone and illustrated by louise fitzhugh of “harriet the spy”
i love the idea of inverting the story of a rich girl who does whatever she wants into a story about a poor girl with beatnik parents who still does whatever she wants. the women who made this book portray this in a multifaceted way, too — suzuki’s beatnik parents aren’t very good parents, and they’re living kind of a shallow lifestyle, but they’re all doing the best they can

i was saving this to read when i felt like i could really appreciate it, and felt like a saturday evening painting my nails might suffice, and oh my god. oh my god. this is possibly the most wonderful work of art ever created by human hands. i, i can’t put into words its loveliness. i needed this in my life so much, you can’t understand.

Anything involving Louise Fitzhugh is an auto-reblog.
Haven’t read this yet but it looks rad.
EDIT: OK, reading now, and this is so cute it’s almost enough to make me reconsider my “never bringing children into the world” stance.
Almost.

This is delightful! Between this and reading Ten Thousand Saints, the social geography of pre-90’s Manhattan has been in my head a lot lately.

But What If I Want To Be Eaten?

hitrecordjoe:

Text by JulesKD

==

“I see you have fine taste,”

the Wolf said, eyeing my basket of flowers,

“step off of the path, if you’d like to,

and we’ll while away a few hours.”

-

“Don’t do it!” the Huntsman cried out,

“Think of your honor, your virtue!

He’s a jerk, you don’t know any better.

Come with me, and I never will hurt you.”

-

A typical Nice Guy, the Huntsman:

his aim is to own and defeat me

“Wolf,” I said, “you want what I want,

so get on your knees then, and eat me.”
